College Presidents Form New Alliance

71 college and university presidents from a mix of two-year and four-year public and private institutions (as well as Capella– the lone for-profit in the mix) have formed a new alliance. The Presidents’ Alliance calls for more robust and transparent measures of student learning. The signature piece of the Alliance will be a database where colleges will report their data. While this could increase transparency and encourage sharing of assessment methods among colleges, there is still the immense challenge of the variety in assessment  to contend with.

We’ll see if this Alliance actually goes anywhere. If it does, has the potential to be very helpful to institutional researchers, enrollment managers, and even prospective students, but getting colleges on the same page when it comes to assessment is a daunting task.
